Steve Claridge departs Salisbury FC

Steve Claridge and Salisbury FC have parted company today (Thursday, 13th October).

The decision follows last night's 4-2 victory away at Tiverton Town.

A statement on the club website said:

"On behalf of everyone at Salisbury FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Steve during his time with the Club, firstly as one of the group of 5 that formed Salisbury FC at the end of 2014 and then as team manager, gaining 2 promotions. Steve will rightly always have a place in Salisbury FC’s history.

"However, with the club no longer involved in either the FA Cup or the FA Trophy this season, it is important to look to the longer term and the ongoing development and success of the club.

"With this in mind, the appointment of a new manager to lead the club forward is seen as essential, and we hope to make an announcement in the near future."

Salisbury currently sit 5th in the Southern League, Southern Premier League table, which is the final playoff spot.

Sources from within the club tell us they expect to be able to announce a replacement ahead of this weekend's fixture. As soon as we have news, we will bring it to you.

Supporters don't seem displeased with the decision on social media and are already speculating about who will take over at the club.

Supporter Pete Martin said on Facebook:

"A big call, but despite us being 5th in the league, I think it's the right move. Very interesting to see who takes over now. I would assume that with no announcement of an interim manager that the club have someone in mind they wish to take over very soon. Hopefully, exciting times ahead."

Fellow supporter Ross Martin added:

"Can’t fault what Steve did to help get the new club up and running. So have to thank him for that.

However, hopefully, see some change now and new style of football we can all enjoy.

Also, look forward to seeing everyone (supporters) who left because he was manager return now he’s gone…."
