St Joseph's Catholic Secondary School in Laverstock has won the Pride Group of the Year award at the Just Like Us 2024 charity awards.
They were presented with the award by Anthony Lexa, a British actress and singer-songwriter who stars in Netflix's Sex Education, at a ceremony celebrating exceptional efforts in promoting LGBT+ inclusivity in schools and workplaces, which took place on Thursday, July 11th, in central London.
The event was hosted by comedian Sophie Duker and activist Dr Ronx Ikharia, the event honoured the tireless work of teachers, mentors, and young people who have paved the way for a more inclusive society.
Student leaders from the Inclusivity Alliance attended the event in London along with staff champions Samantha Barratt, Charlotte Clark and Karen Griffiths.
Inclusivity Alliance was formed in 2022 and meets weekly to discuss a range of topics related to equality, diversity and inclusion. They have also run whole school events, such as colour run, allies week and pride celebrations.
They have introduced a rainbow library, with donations made from people wishing that had the same level of visibility in their own faith schools.
Teacher Samantha Barratt said, "The inclusivity alliance helps us to follow our school ethos of all being made in God's image and loved and celebrated for who we are. "
Scarlett-Niamh Porter, a member of the student group, said, "It was a great evening to meet like-minded young people."
