Salisbury’s Pan Disability Football Team have returned to training after the summer break and would like to hear from young people who would like to get involved.
The Community Activity Leaders at the Council provide opportunities for those aged 12-16 with disabilities to get involved in playing football. Sessions are open to all abilities; from those with previous experience to those without.
Sessions take place every Monday, 4:45pm-5:45pm at Sarum Academy, Westwood Road, Salisbury, SP2 9HS.
WASP Active Communities Lead Simon Woodhouse said, “The Community Activity Leaders have done a fantastic job in providing new opportunities for young disabled people to try something different. Creation of the club has given young people the chance to meet new friends, have fun and be active".
Tim, a parent of one participant who has been attending since the start, has been pleased with the opportunities that these sessions provide his child.
“I have been bringing Noah to these sessions from September 2018. He would not be able to access main-stream football, so these sessions are so important to him and give him and others the opportunity to practice and learn new skills, play some football, and have some fun for an hour on Monday evenings.
“I have observed not only our child but the other members grow in confidence, not only in football skills, but also socially and this is due mainly to the patience and professionalism of Sean and his team. All are made to feel very welcome”.
In addition to hearing from those aged 12-16 who would like to take part in football, the Community Activity Leaders would also like to hear from those aged 8-11 who may be interested in taking up and joining in a similar session for the younger age range as they look to expand their disability football provision.
