Salisbury's MP John Glen has been removed from his senior position in the treasury to a job in the cabinet office in Rishi Sunak's cabinet reshuffle.
Mr Glen had served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury since being appointed to the post when Sunak became prime minister in October 2022.
He will now become the government's paymaster general.
It comes after Laura Trott was announced as Glen's replacement in the reshuffle
In his new brief, Glen will essentially act as a banker for most government departments.
He's also responsible for paying some 430,000 public service pensions, including those of civil servants, teachers and NHS staff.
John Glen posted on social media, "I am pleased to have been appointed to the role of Paymaster General and Mister for the Cabinet Office. I look forward to supporting the government to deliver our priorities."
