Salisbury's Boathouse has closed

After only six months of being open, the Boathouse bar and restaurant closed its doors.

The venue reopened in September of last year after an extensive renovation after the building had sat empty for many years.

The Harris family, who also run the Stag Hotel in Lyndhurst and recently announced The Old Mill reopening in Harnham, put a lot of effort and money into the renovation but have struggled to make the business work.

Hampered by the River Park Project works taking place opposite and the road being closed across the river, in addition to the cost of living crisis, the venue shut its doors yesterday (26th February).

Talking to Salisbury Radio, Nathalie Harris, said: "It has been a very difficult decision, but as of today, the Boathouse will be closed for the foreseeable future.

"There are many factors attributing to this decision which includes the cost increases in energy and stock, the redevelopment park work which has resulted in the complete loss of footfall and the current climate where we all are more careful where we are spending our money.

"We would like to thank our regulars for supporting the Boathouse and to the amazing people that tirelessly work in the great team.

"There are some amazing places to eat in the vicinity, and we urge you to support and use them; otherwise, you will see many more pubs and restaurants become places of the past.

"We have given The Boathouse Crew the option to continue their employment at The Old Mill if they wish to."

The Harris family are still reopening The Old Mill in Harnham, with an official opening set to happen in the next two weeks.

She continued: "The Old Mill is a completely separate business and is not affected by this decision. We are very excited to be opening after the full refurbishment on the 8th March.

"Any outstanding vouchers purchased through Salisbury Radio for The Boathouse can be used either at The Old Mill, Salisbury or The Stag Hotel, Lyndhurst."

Customers who have purchased vouchers via the LoveSalisbury website for use at The Boathouse can now be used at The Old Mill in Harnam or The Stag Hotel in Lyndhurst; more information soon.
