Salisbury Radio visit Song for Christmas winners

The team from Salisbury Radio have delivered a rather large book token and trophy to Pitton Primary School, the winners of Song for Christmas 2022.

The whole school was gathered in the hall for the presentation of the £200 book token and trophy for their winning entry to the competition, 'Sweet Chiming Bells'.

Year 5 & 6 teacher Andy Russell received the book tokens on behalf of the school, and pupil Amelia received the trophy from one of our judges, Anne Munns.

The school celebrate their win

Amelia recorded the solo performance on the winning song, one of the features of the song that convinced the judges to score it so highly.

The school were alone in recording their own song, with teachers Mr Russell and Mrs Guymer not only helping with arranging and recording the track, but they also performed on it too, with Mrs Guymer playing the flute and Mr Russell adding the festive bells.

Mr Russell and Amelia receive the book token and trophy from judge Anne Munns.

Pitton beat 16 other schools in and around Salisbury to win the competition sponsored by Guyatts Storage on its return to local radio last year.

Plans are already being shaped to expand on Song for Christmas 2023.

Listen to Craig Hicks from Breakfast as he chats with Mr Russell and some of the students at Pitton Primary School.
