After the success of its open day over the last two years, Salisbury Fire Station is opening its doors to the local community again this weekend.
Everyone is welcome to visit the fire station on Ashley Road between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday (21st September).
Appliances from across Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and a specialist airport vehicle from nearby Boscombe Down airfield will be on display. There will also be a range of demonstrations, including hot oil fires, using the aerial ladder platform, a road traffic collision, and a building fire.
Other activities will include a CPR training area, where people can ‘have a go’ at vital lifesaving skills; a chance to test your throwing ability at the throwline target practice; and a fire engine experience.
Children can dress up as firefighters and spray water at targets, and the Fire Service Store, which raises money for the Fire Fighters Charity, will sell a range of toys and gifts.
In addition to everything related to the fire and rescue service, there will be stalls for Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR), Wessex Blood Bikes, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, the British Red Cross, Wiltshire Police, South Western Ambulance Service, NHS Blood Service, and St John Ambulance.
Firefighter Sam Edwards said: “We’re building on the success of the last two years, and we hope to have more fire appliances on show than ever before! This is a completely free event for all the family to enjoy, but any money raised through the shop and refreshments will benefit the Fire Fighters Charity. We just want people to come along, meet their local firefighters and hopefully learn about staying safe while at home or out and about.”
Please note that no parking is available at the fire station, so visitors are encouraged to use public transport or walk in.
