Salisbury FC look to right wrongs in second consecutive game against Gosport

Salisbury FC look to right the wrongs of last weekend’s FA Trophy loss in Southern League Premier South action as they take on Gosport Borough at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

Salisbury pushed Gosport to their limits away last Saturday when a Noah Coppin brace forced a 2-2 draw to be decided by a penalty shootout.

Coppin, Aaron McCready and Charlie Gunson all had their penalties saved and Gosport advanced, meaning that Salisbury were knocked out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy in the same week.

Salisbury lost back-to-back games for the first time since April.

With Salisbury now out of these competitions, manager Brian Dutton wants to see his side’s undivided attention pushed towards the league.

In an interview with the club, he said: “We obviously wanted cup runs, but if you look at the FA Cup run we had, we exited quite honourably with that.

“Now all of our focus is on the league, we know what we want to do and what we’ve got to do, so we’ll try and have a real successful league campaign this year.”

Gosport come to the Raymond McEnhill Stadium but their away record will concern Salisbury - the south coast side have only conceded three goals when playing away from home this season.

Their only defeat in 11 league games came in an away fixture though and Salisbury might be boosted by the fact that Gosport played midweek in a 2-2 draw to Dorchester.

Nevertheless, beating a Gosport side looking to defend the top spot in the division will be a tough challenge for Brian Dutton’s team, especially considering that Salisbury have not beaten Boro in their last five meetings.

In news away from the pitch, Salisbury have been bolstered by the announcement of a new sponsorship this week, partnering with local business A Blake Decorating.
