Salisbury FC battle for away win

Brian Dutton's Salisbury FC won their second game on the bounce to lift them back into the playoff places on Saturday.

A single goal from Marvin Brooks was enough to bring all three points back to Salisbury from Harrow.

It was a game where both sides had chances to score, with the woodwork being hit on several occasions and the odd goal-mouth scramble.

Salisbury started brightly and could have taken the lead inside the first five minutes, but Josh Wakefield was unable to turn home a Calvin Brooks cross.

Harrow Borough had chances themselves. Isiah Noel-Williams could not apply the finish after good work from Montel Brown down the right set up the chance inside 10 minutes.

Salisbury pushed forward, with Sam Roberts drawing a save from Jacob Knightbridge in the Harrow goal when he connected with a corner.

Gerard Benfield was called into action on 38 minutes when he denied George Moore.

With neither side able to take their chances, it was scoreless at halftime.

The home side pushed forward at the start of the second period with Benfield, the man who kept Salisbury level. He twice denied them in a goal-mouth scramble after 51 minutes of the game.

As the hour mark approached, Benfield was once again called into action, turning away a long-range effort from Brown.

Dutton rang the changes as both Brandon Goodship and Marvin Brooks, the latter returning from injury, in an attempt to turn the tide and gain control of the game.

The game opened up with Benfield again denying Brown and both sides hitting the woodwork.

It took until the 76 minute for the deadlock to be broken. Dan Fitchett wriggled free from his marker and laid the ball on for Calvin Brooks, who bundled home from 3 yards out.

Harrow piled on the pressure, but Salisbury were able to limit their chances and Benfield and his defence were equal to everything that was thrown at them.

Salisbury now sit 6th in the table and welcome Hendon to the Ray Mac in their next fixture in a 1 pm kick-off on Saturday, 3rd December.
