Salisbury FC could pile more misery onto a struggling Didcot Town this weekend, as they travel to Oxfordshire in Southern League Premier South action.
Jamar Smith will return to Didcot after playing a key role in their promotion campaign last season, where he scored the winner in the Southern League Central Division One play-off final.
His goal took Didcot back up to a Step Three division for the first time in 12 years, but he’ll be sitting in the away changing room this time as Salisbury’s starting right back.
Smith’s former team are winless in seven and have been first to concede in their last five games, and they have found themselves slipping down the table since their last win in September.
Didcot are sat in 21st place and have the second worst goal difference in the league.
Salisbury on the other hand have stormed the season so far - they are third and have a game in hand over the league leaders Gosport.
But even with such a solid start, manager Brian Dutton still believes that his side can take their season up to another level once some big players return from injury.
Speaking to the club after last week’s 2-0 win against Gosport, Dutton said: “We’ve been very unlucky with injuries.
“Thomas Bragg obviously had a real bad injury and he’s been excellent since coming back. We’re still missing some key players as well, Theo (Lewis) is getting back up to fitness and James Harding has been away for a long period this season.
“We’ve probably got a couple more gears to go up once everyone’s fit and raring to go. If we can keep our feet on the ground and keep working hard, the future’s bright.”
Salisbury also hosted a fan forum on Wednesday night, where the club was boosted by another donation from the Salisbury FC Supporters’ Club.
The fan group raised £2000 which was presented to Salisbury FC during the forum at the Ray Mac.
