Salisbury Christmas Dinner is back to feed those in need

The festive group Salisbury Christmas Dinner is back again this year, delivering meals to isolated members of the community and to those who may not be able to afford a roast dinner this Christmas.

Now in its fourth year, the charitable project by Thom Belk aims to make sure everybody who needs a Christmas meal gets one and is able to see the friendly, merry faces of one of their volunteers.

"I feel it is quite a poignant time of year and so it’s important that we don’t just celebrate the holiday with our loved ones but we also think about those in the community that are left on their own or are in need.

"This year has once again been very tough, with the country under lockdown measures for nearly half of the year. Many people continue to struggle financially, with the effects of the pandemic and many more are set to struggle with the changes to Universal Credit," explained Thom.

The focus of the Christmas Dinner project has changed since the pandemic, it not only focuses on feeding the homeless but aims to help anyone who is in need in the community.

"We shall be looking to help put food on the table for those who are experiencing financial difficulties. We will also be looking to arrange visitors for those who are isolated or experiencing loneliness, and hopefully, we can keep in touch with them after the day itself," added Thom.

To fund the Christmas Dinner project, Thom and his team are raising £1,500 through a crowdfunding campaign. If you would like to donate to the project, click here.
