Salisbury charity brings padlock sculpture to city centre celebrating HOME

A new sculpture is coming to Salisbury, celebrating the importance of HOME in our lives and helping local charity Alabaré secure a brighter future for people who are homeless or vulnerable in our community.

On Friday, 22nd September local charity Alabaré are unveiling this interactive artwork in the Old George Mall in Salisbury. The piece celebrates the idea of Home and what it means to each of us.

Members of the public are invited to come along during the week of the installation (Friday 22nd September to Friday 29th September) to donate and receive a padlock to lock onto the sculpture, which is made up of large 3D letters which spell the word HOME. Each padlock will come with a house-shaped fob on which they can write their personal messages of what HOME means to them.

The money raised from the padlocks will help fund the support that Alabaré provides for people who are vulnerable or homeless.

Each person who donates and adds their padlock message to the sculpture is helping to secure a brighter future for someone vulnerable or in crisis.

The Alabaré team see every day the difference that having a safe, warm home has in our lives.

Each year, they help around 2,000 people who have been homeless or at risk of becoming homeless into new homes.

They help each person to overcome underlying problems that they are experiencing, which could include mental or physical health challenges, debt and relationship breakdown. By providing safety, support, time, and training, the Alabaré team support each resident to build a bright future for themselves.

The Alabaré Padlocks installation has been inspired by the Parisian tradition of using a padlock to lock on words of love on the famous Pont Des Arts bridge. It is a ritual that has been repeated in various other locations around the world.

The installation coincides with the opening of Primark’s new Salisbury shop, and Alabaré are grateful for the support of Primark along with Leigh’s Locks, Salisbury Men’s Shed, Travis Perkins and Old George Mall.
