Salisbury Artists’ Summer Exhibition with 120 original artworks

Salisbury Group of Artists will be stimulating visitors to the Central Library in August.

SGA’ are holding their annual Summer Exhibition at Gallery 4, at the library from Saturday 3rd August until Friday 30th August.

The exhibition will feature more than 120 original art works, including ceramics, sculptures and work with textiles as well as original paintings, photographs and prints.

The long-standing society has been in existence since the 1940s, and is currently thriving, with more than 200 members, drawn from Salisbury and the surrounding areas.

Members range from professional artists, teachers and people who have had a lifetime of enjoyment as artists to those who are just starting out to explore their creative talent.

Last year, the society dedicated one wall of the Summer Exhibition to offering smaller pieces of original art at particularly keen prices.  Organisers say their ‘Wall of Smalls’ proved very popular, and will be repeated this year.

There will be a chance to meet exhibiting artists at the opening event on Saturday 3rd August from 2-4pm.

Annie George, who curates the exhibition supported by a committee of fellow artists, says, “Please make a diary note to come and see the exhibition on its opening afternoon, and meet some of the artists who have contributed work. There are some eye-catching ceramic and sculptural pieces this year, and great pictures from popular local artists across different styles and in different media.”

Martin Webster, chair of the Salisbury Group of Artists added, “We are keen to share the enjoyment we all have in being creative: this exhibition provides an opportunity to find out more about us and our activities as well as a chance to celebrate some outstanding work by our members.”

This friendly society runs weekly sessions on Friday afternoons to enable members to paint together, (which include tea and cake) while the ‘Salisbury Sketchers’ group sketch together every month around Salisbury in the warmer months.

There are regular art workshops with professional artists in various media, plus regular opportunities to exhibit, and to participate in the ArtScene SGA Gazebo and other affordable art sale events. Members receive a monthly Newsletter to keep them updated.

The SGA Summer Exhibition runs from 3rd – 30th August, during library opening hours.  Entry is free and fully accessible. Access is via the stairs near the front of the library or via a lift.
