Running challenge visits Salisbury on tour of English Cities

Five runners taking on a marathon running challenge around England visited Salisbury on day two of their challenge yesterday (Sunday, September 15th).

The Run the Cities team is running in the 55 cities in England in a 16-day period, completing a 10km run in each city to clock up 550km in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

The challenge was dreamt up by Tom Vosper, whose dad passed away from Prostate Cancer, and he wanted to put something in his memory.

Before arriving in Salisbury, the team had already run in Bristol and Bath, and after the Salisbury leg, the team were heading to Southampton.

The team start their runs at football clubs. They started the Salisbury leg at the Ray Mac, the home of Salisbury FC. After posing for photos and having an impromptu game of cross-bar challenge on the pitch, they set off on their 10km run into the Cathedral and back out to Old Sarum again.

Alex, one of the five runners, told Salisbury Radio, "So, Tom, the guy who organised this and dreamt up this crazy idea, sadly lost his dad to prostate cancer a couple of years ago. Myself and my brother, our dad is living with it as well. And it's just a cause that is very close to our hearts.

"The starting at the football club, says, is a bit of a community thing and, again, is a bit of a tribute to Tom's dad, who used to go to a lot of their games with him when he was a kid, we figured it'd be a good way to get a lot of community onside."

Today, the runs visit Winchester, Portsmouth, Chichester and then the four of the day in Brighton.
