Royal British Legion reopens in Salisbury

The Royal British Legion Club in Salisbury was formally reopened this weekend (8th October 2022) by the Mayor of the City of Salisbury.

Councillor Tom Corbin officially announced the club as open and spent much of the afternoon meeting club members.

The reopening of the club marks a restoration of a Royal British Legion presence in Salisbury which was first established in 1922.

The club had been closed for nearly two and a half years having closed on Friday 20th March 2020 due to the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In August of that year, the club's ground floor infrastructure was damaged by a flood. The pandemic lockdown was reintroduced at Christmas 2020 and in the early part of 2021 the site was vacated to allow for essential building work.

Upon regaining access to the ground floor at the end of 2021, the club was refurbished, modernising the decoration - putting in new flooring, modernising the look of the bar and giving the club a lighter, brighter, and more vibrant attractive style, as well as installing low energy LED lighting, a modern fibre optic telecoms system, a computer till and door entry system/

The club initially reopened on 29th July 2022 but suffered from a second flood eighteen days later and was forced to close again during the clean-up, finally reopening this October.

Membership to the club is available to all adults whether or not they were former service members, all are welcome. The club aims to be a vibrant, family-friendly, dog-friendly place to enjoy meeting friends, playing snooker, pool, darts or taking part in other activities within the club.

Membership can be obtained from the club bar and costs just £15 per year.
