Residents urged to be vigilant following a spate of burglaries in Tidworth

Residents in the Tisbury area are being reminded to be vigilant regarding home security following a spate of burglaries in recent weeks.

Outbuildings such as barns and garages have been targeted in a number of incidents in the area.

Sometime between the 16th and 17th October damage was caused to a barn door in Swallowcliffe when offenders attempted to break-in. The same barn was targeted on 24th October, on this occasion offenders gained entry to the barn and stole a number of petrol cans.

A garage was broken into in Donhead St Andrew between midnight and 6am on 20th October.

An outbuilding at an address in Dinton Road, Fovant, was broken into between 25th and 26th October with a number of garden tools stolen including a leaf blower, chainsaw and hedge trimmer.

Sgt Kevin Harmsworth said: “Enquiries into these incidents are ongoing and it is unclear at this stage if the incidents are linked.

“We know that burglaries of any kind can be extremely upsetting for the victims and we’d like to remind people to take their home security, including garages, sheds and outbuildings, seriously.

“I know that many people do not secure their outbuildings in the same way that they do their homes, but it is really important that all steps are taken to prevent opportunists from breaking in, as often these people will break into a shed or garage first to try and find the tools they need to then break into a house.

“Look at your outbuildings and think like a thief – consider how you would break in and take steps to prevent this. Consider a battery operated shed alarm. Property marking your items is also advisable".
