Rebuilding trust is key, says PCC candidate Stanka Adamcova

Labour's PCC candidate, Stanka Adamcova believes that rebuilding trust in police in Wiltshire should be one of the key priorities off the next PCC.

In an interview with Salisbury Radio, Stanka spoke about many things she has learned from working in the Office of the Police Crime Commissioner, as a local councillor, and by talking to the many and varied communities across Wiltshire and Swindon.

She said, "Different communities have different needs. I've been doing a lot of engagement with communities throughout the county, having street stalls, having public meetings and meeting them.

"There is one key theme they all have in common they all keep asking for, and that is effective neighbourhood policing.

"I always say that neighbourhood policing teams are a building block when it comes to recreate the trust between the police and the public."

When asked about a new police station in Salisbury, Stanka said, "I think we all know that Bourne Hill just doesn't work.

"There's just not enough private space. So, police officers can't use it as a space to interview witnesses. I'm really open minded to have a fresh look at all possible options. I think you just need somebody with more energy to actually prioritize and to make sure that it happens.

"I think that residents of Salisbury and residents of Southern Wiltshire have been massively let down when it comes to custody suites.

"There are currently two custody suites: one in Swindon and the other in Melksham. Melksham has been closed for refurbishment because they were refurbishing the building, which meant that if somebody was making arrests down in Salisbury, it took them three hours to drive around the county all the way to Swindon and back down."
