Families will be hoping to quack Salisbury’s Duck Trail this Independent Bookshop Week.
Salisbury BID, Rocketship Bookshop and Usborne Books are teaming up to celebrate Independent Bookshop Week with the help of two hugely popular children’s characters.
Poppy and Sam, from the Farmyard Tales series, will be part of The Little Yellow Duck Trail: a family-friendly trail winding its way through the city centre.
From 19th to 26th June 2021, Little Yellow Ducks will be hidden in shop windows, and all families need to do is find them.
Salisbury BID has gathered together 15 independent shops to take part with the aim of encouraging more people into the city centre and highlighting the large variety of unique businesses Salisbury has to offer.
Maps of the trail and entry forms can be downloaded on the Experience Salisbury and Salisbury BID websites. You can also collect one from Salisbury Information Centre on Fish Row or Rocketship Bookshop.
Once all the shops have been found, answers can be entered onto the form and handed in to Rocketship Bookshop, 5 Bridge Street.
Correct entries submitted up to and including 26th June will be entered into a prize draw to win a selection of books from the Rocketship Bookshop and a £20 Salisbury Gift Card. A winner will be chosen at random.
Salisbury BID is encouraging families to take part in the FREE trail. Business Manager for the BID, Dan Collins, hopes to increase footfall but in a fun way, “I would like to thank Rocketship Bookshop and all the independent businesses taking part for making this trail possible. Poppy and Sam is a hugely popular franchise, with over 11 million books in the series sold worldwide so we are thrilled to be working in partnership with Usborne Books.
"The last year and a half hasn’t been easy for shops or families. Shops have been shut, families have been couped up, but now restrictions have eased and we are heading back out again. The Little Yellow Duck Trail not only will bring people into the city centre, giving businesses a welcome boost, but also offers something for families to do together.”
The trail runs for the whole duration of Independent Bookshop Week, also 19th to 26th June.
This is a week aimed at encouraging shoppers to visit their local bookstore, rather than using national chains or online sellers.
Owner of Rocketship Bookshop, Jo Boyle, said, "I am very proud to be twinned with Usborne and Salisbury BID for Independent Bookshop Week and so pleased that we can say a big thank you to our local customers for supporting the shop during a very difficult first year by inviting them to take part in the Little Yellow Duck Trail."
