Deputy Chief Commissioner, Oliva Cox, received a young adult leadership award at the Girlguiding South West England's annual awards ceremony.
The ceremony took place on 2nd September, in Salisbury.
Olivia Cox, Deputy Chief Commissioner for the Region, received the Young Adult Leaders Award. The award, given to recognise Leaders who have done something special and remarkable, can be gained by any leader aged 18 to 30 years old.
Liv, from Somerset, appointed Deputy Chief Commissioner in June 2021, has gone above and beyond to ensure that our Young Members’ voices are seen and heard.
Her passion for the development of Inspire, 18–30-year-old, network was clear from the start.
This network has developed from meetings with only a few members to a thriving and supportive group of coordinators across the 16 Counties and Islands in the Region.
Working behind the scenes to recruit Lead Volunteers and an 18-30 Trustee and liaising with the Region office, Liv is a trusted team member who can be turned to for advice, opinion, or just someone to talk to. In less than two years, Liv had organised three events for this age group: the Inspire and Ignite online festival, a Celebration event and an Inspire trip to Pax Lodge in March 2023, with over 200 Inspire members attending those events.
All of Liv’s dedication to the youth organisation was done alongside studying, where she has recently graduated with a first-class degree at the University of Portsmouth. Whether it is attending the numerous events across the Region as part of the chief Commissioner team, visiting units, supporting peer educators, or rowing across the English Chanel on a rowing machine to raise money for Children in Need, Liv does it all with the Region strategy in mind and to support members, helping all girls to know they can do anything.
A true role model for so many, Liv’s time, dedication, enthusiasm, and skills leading on the Girl Experience aspect of the region strategy has shown how deserving she is of the Young Adult Leaders award.
