PCC thanks as his Deputy steps down after nearly two years in the role

Wiltshire’s Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner has decided to step down from his role this week (May 5) – after nearly two years in the post.

Russell Holland, also a Swindon Borough Councillor and a lawyer, said he had enjoyed the role of DPCC supporting Mr Wilkinson and ensuring the needs and thoughts of residents on the county’s police service were advocated at the right level.

DPCC Holland said: “It has been a privilege to have served with PCC Philip Wilkinson as his Deputy.

“As the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner has grown, it has become clear the functions carried out by the Deputy require more hours than I am able to dedicate due to my increasing professional commitments. I am proud to have contributed to the improvements the PCC has made to his office and in delivering his Plan.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and will always count myself as a friend of both Philip and Wiltshire Police - both work tirelessly to keep the residents of Wiltshire and Swindon safe.”

Mr Wilkinson thanked the DPCC for his service.

He said: “Russell’s passion for policing and ensuring communities get the service they deserve, and want, from their police service has been evident throughout his time as Deputy. He has been an avid supporter of all Wiltshire Police’s officers, staff and volunteers and has provided a vital link between Swindon’s communities and us.

“My many thanks to him for his public service, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

The role of Deputy PCC is not a mandatory appointment and Mr Wilkinson has decided to review whether another appointment is necessary at this time.
