Overnight closures for key Salisbury roads as improvement works continue

Two key roads in Salisbury will be closed overnight to accommodate the latest improvement works as part of the ongoing Fisherton Gateway project.

South Western Road will be closed to all vehicular traffic overnight, from 7.30 pm to 6 am, starting Monday 30th September for a period of two weeks. This closure will allow for the road to be resurfaced as part of the project aimed at enhancing the road network and public spaces making it easier, and more convenient to travel by foot into the city centre.

Fisherton Street will also be closed between its junction with South Western Road and Summerlock Approach for one week, starting Monday, September 30, from 7.30 pm to 6 am. This is to facilitate the resurfacing of the mini roundabout junction.

The closures are required to enable the works to be undertaken safely by the contractor. All roads will however remain open overnight on Saturdays and Sundays during this period.

Whilst vehicular access will be restricted, pedestrian access along both streets will remain open, and pedestrian access to all businesses will be maintained at all times.

During the overnight closure periods, delivery drivers will be able to access Fisherton Street via Summerlock Approach, turning left to park up and make use of the loading bay.

Access to Salisbury Railway Station will be affected, particularly after 11 p.m., when entry via South Western Road will be unavailable. The Council and its contractors are working closely with South Western Railway to minimise disruption and ensure the station continues to operate during this period.

Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: “These overnight works represent the final significant phase of the Fisherton Gateway enhancements. We recognise the closures will cause some disruption, and we are doing everything we can to minimise this as much as possible.

“We are on track to complete the South Western Road enhancements by mid-October and would like to thank businesses and residents for their patience and co-operation in delivering these important schemes for Salisbury.

“This project, supported by the £9 million investment from the Future High Streets Fund is a key part of our plan to create vibrant, well-connected communities.”
