New road markings outside the Laverstock schools on Church Road that reinforce 'no stopping at any time' have come into force today (29th October 2021).
Laverstock & Ford Parish Council have been working with Wiltshire Council, Highways, and local schools to address the long-standing parking and traffic issues on Church Road in Laverstock, particularly around school pick up and drop off time.
As part of these plans, new ‘School Keep Clear’ entrance markings have been put in place with the restriction 'No Stopping at any time', as shown on the plans below marked in yellow. These new ‘no waiting’ restrictions have come into force with immediate effect.
Nick Baker, Chair of the Parish Council said, "We know that traffic congestion on Church Road, the pollution associated with it, and hazardous driving, are one of the biggest concerns of local residents.
"Over the last year the local schools, Wiltshire Council, the Parish Council, the Police and local residents have been working together to try and improve this situation, looking at strategies to both reduce the number of cars travelling to school and how we can improve enforcement of regulations.
"One of the challenges that came to light was that it was almost impossible for either the Police or Wiltshire Council officers to enforce the existing road markings. This Traffic Regulation Order is the first step in addressing this. This is a complex problem which does not have a single solution, but we hope this is a step in the right direction".
Laverstock & Ford Parish Council say the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and other road users is of paramount importance. The working party will be reviewing the success of these changes and discussing enforcement options should it prove necessary.
