The Dusty Apron Bakery is set to open its first bakery on Winchester Street on Tuesday 7th September.
Owner, Marcus Sherar, will be baking a selection of sweet treats including brownies, cookies, millionaire’s shortbread and cinnamon buns. Grilled sandwiches, freshly made sandwiches, pastries and brunch buns will also be on the menu.
“We are super excited, it has been a long time coming,” commented Marcus.
Marcus has been a chef for the past 17 years, and after working in big hotels all over Europe, he decided to turn in the long chef hours for a quieter life.
"I was Head Chef at the Stones Hotel for a while but I didn’t really have a life. I stepped away from that and took another job in Stockbridge doing woodfired pizza. In my spare time, I started baking brownies at home and they really took off.
“I have been doing that for the last three years, so I decided to go for it and open a shop,” explained Marcus.
Within the bakery, there will be a small space for customers to sit and eat in, including a window bench that looks out onto the high street for those who enjoy a spot of people watching.
Marcus will be cooking up a variety of sweet treats each week, but at the moment his most popular brownie is Biscoff caramel.
“The Biscoff caramel brownie has caramel in the middle and Biscoff on top with Biscoff caramel sauce. I also do a lot of American style triple chocolate cookies.
“There isn’t anything in Salisbury that is doing what I am going to be doing. There are lots of cafés but nowhere that focuses on lots of sweet treats, cakes and brownies.”
As well as cakes, brownies and pastries, The Dusty Apron will be brewing fresh American-style filter coffee for £1 a cup.
“It’s really quick, within 10 seconds you can have a nice fresh hot coffee and be out the door. That’s something that I am quite passionate about, but we will also offer really good quality lattes and flat whites.
“We hope to make a big mark on Salisbury and I hope people will come in and check us out,” said Marcus.
