mySalisbury launches community journalism workshops

Salisbury and Southern Wiltshire Area Boards have awarded grants to the local project mySalisbury, which will host journalism workshops for community journalists.

The mySalisbury project was designed to deliver positive community-led news to the people of Salisbury and Southern Wiltshire. Through workshops, community journalists would be able to report on the good that is happening in their own backyard.

While the pandemic has delayed these workshops coming sooner, the project has not been discouraged.

“We have not been deterred, over 600 articles have been published and shared with the community. Over 40,000 people have read, shared, and commented on those articles,” commented Andy Munns, founder of mySalisbury.

Now, through grants from Salisbury and Southern Wiltshire Area Boards, mySalisbury have been able to buy equipment for workshops and community journalists. Equipment will be free to use by volunteers to gather content to publish on the mySalisbury platform.

Workshops will cover writing for journalism, photography, videography, podcasting, video/audio editing and publishing to the internet.

There will also be workshops around the specialist software that may be used to enhance these areas. No experience or equipment is necessary. You just need an interest in sharing the good things that happen around our area.

The first workshop will run on Monday 27th of September at a venue in Salisbury, to be confirmed shortly. Numbers for workshops will be restricted and run in a manner to make all those attending feel safe.

“It’s really exciting to finally launch our first workshops. It’s been a tough year for everyone and it’s nice to be able to invite people along to our workshops to help people learn some new skills and hopefully have some fun along the way.

“It’s going to be really interesting to see what content will be published via our site and the community we can build,” added Andy.
