The Musicroom on Catherine street is set to close, ending a nearly 60-year run of music shops occupying the store.
The shop, along with all but one of its Musicroom stores, will close for the final time on Friday, 17th March.
It has been a shop that has provided access to musical instruments and lessons for many local people, from beginners to accomplished musicians alike, with many having their first taste of music lesson there (myself included).
Many will remember the name Stangers as it was first known, then Percy Priors before it finally became musicroom.
In a statement on their facebook page, the shop said: "We have been so proud to be the place where you have all come at one point or another along your musical journeys. Everyone in the store is heartbroken that we won’t be here for the future of music in Salisbury.
"Come see us in our final days and maybe treat yourself one more time to a high E string or a piano."
The brand will remain online and at its flagship store on Denmark Street in London. Musicroom's managing director said: "Our decision to restructure in this way has been very difficult. However, with sales and profitability impacted by challenging market conditions and costs continuing to rise, we need to make these changes.
"Our focus now is on supporting affected teams and serving our customers through this period. We look forward to working with partners and suppliers as we grow Musicroom in new ways and ensure our products continue to be part of every music-making journey."
Those who have used the shop either currently in the past commented via social media on the news.
Ruth Jones of local band the Zuchinnis said: "So sorry to hear this, mainly because of the impact on jobs, but also because its somewhere young people can walk into and be inspired by instruments and music / resources. I've been going to a music shop on that site since I was at school x."
The Winchester Gate, Salisbury's popular music venue said: "Sending so much love guys. Thanks for keeping Salisbury's musician's playing. xx"
