Local Charity Welcomes Applications For Life-Changing Funding

For over 27 years Salisbury charity Childrens Chance has been on a mission to help children and young people access life-enriching activities that might otherwise be out of reach.

They are now encouraging new funding applications for the year ahead.

Offering awards to local children aged 4 to 19, the charity provides direct financial support to families to ensure their children can participate in activities such as music lessons, sports clubs, and school trips - opportunities that build confidence, skills, and lifelong memories.

With over 95% of applications successfully funded, Childrens Chance is encouraging more families to apply and take advantage of this vital support in 2025. They hope to fund more activities than ever before this year, so no child has to miss out due to financial constraints.

Some examples of recent awards given to Salisbury children include:

  • Karate classes were funded for a local child whose step-father became disabled in an accident. Due to financial strain caused by their change in circumstances, they were unable to afford the class fees for their daughter Liz. Childrens Chance awarded a grant to cover class costs, to ensure Liz could continue the hobby she loves.
  • Andrew is a talented violinist whose parents were no longer able to afford his lessons. His school head of music supported Andrew’s parents’ application and the charity were able to help fund his violin lessons moving forwards.
  • Local twins were recently gifted a financial grant from Childrens Chance in order to take part in a two-day school residential trip. Their parents were unable to afford the two separate costs, but could send both girls on the trip thanks to the additional financial support from the charity.

Participation in extracurricular activities is proven to improve mental health, academic success, and social skills. However, for many families, the rising cost of living has put these opportunities out of reach. That’s where Childrens Chance steps in, offering a lifeline to ensure that every child, regardless of financial background, can dream, explore, and grow with hobbies and activities that they love.

“We believe every child deserves the chance to thrive, but we know that some families struggle to cover the costs of activities that can shape a child’s future,” said Jane Miller, founder of Childrens Chance. “Our awards have already helped hundreds of local children learn new skills, make new friends, and gain confidence - and we want to do even more this year.”

Families in need of support can visit the charity’s website at www.childrenschance.co.uk to find out more and submit an application. Applications are open year-round, and the process is designed to be simple and accessible. Applications must be made by an adult, and have the support of a caring professional, such a headteacher, social worker, GP or family support worker.
