Salisbury Transition City has announced the first Salisbury Green Business Awards winners.
The awards are a local scheme that recognises and celebrates businesses adopting eco-friendly practices.
The awards scheme encourages businesses to assess their current sustainability practices and receive actionable advice on making their business greener and saving money. The winners were assessed based on their efforts to reduce their environmental impact in various aspects of their business.
The award categories ranged from Bronze to Gold.
Salisbury Escape Rooms achieved a Bronze award for their zero-waste-to-landfill mentality and forward-thinking environmental practices. At the same time, Indigo Landscape Architects earned a Silver award for their impressive office recycling using local recycling schemes, office space with sustainable amenities, and a bike shed to enable staff to cycle to and from work easily.
They also work closely with their customers to ensure low carbon solutions, and they are offsetting their carbon emissions through the World Land Trust carbon balanced programme.
Webbed Feet was the first business to receive a Gold award for its dedication to sustainable website design powered by renewable energy and innovative alterations to its office space, such as a toilet that uses waste sink water for flushing and insulation works.
Equilibria Massage has also been awarded a Gold Green Business Award for its exceptional efforts in reducing its environmental impact, with a focus on renewable energy, ethical banking, and local sourcing of products.
Muse Hairdressing was awarded a Gold Green Business Award for committing to the environment by prioritising sustainability in every aspect of its business.
They have taken significant steps to reduce their environmental impact, such as using water-saving showerheads and energy-efficient hair dryers and carefully sourcing sustainable products.
They are leading the way in reducing waste by recycling and repurposing every possible item, including hair that the Green Salon Collective collects for cleaning up oil spills. Casa Fina also achieved a Bronze award for their significant efforts in waste reduction and ethical investments, among many other environmental actions.
Sophia Karlberg, a Salisbury Green Business Awards project manager, said, "We are pleased to recognise these businesses for their contribution to local sustainability and the wider environment. Their efforts not only benefit the environment but will also inspire other Salisbury businesses to adopt more sustainable practices."
The awards scheme is still open for businesses to take part and benefit from receiving the information toolkit packed with ideas on making their business more environmentally friendly.
Businesses that score highly enough receive a locally crafted wooden award by the Man Cave Maker and the opportunity to have the GBA award painted on their shop window by local artist Michele Millidge. This will highlight their effort to customers who increasingly shop with the environment in mind.
