Local businesses boost Salisbury's Christmas Toy Appeal

The Great Salisbury Toy Appeal has received a boost today thanks to some wonderful local businesses.

Salisbury Radio has donated £800 of funds raised so far from local businesses who are advertising on the station’s virtual Advent Calendar next month.

The Toy Appeal seeks to raise £3,000 to provide a Christmas present for children from families who might otherwise go without this Christmas.

Organisers say over 500 children could benefit from this year’s Appeal.

Business that bought a ‘virtual Advent Calendar door’ - to be opened each day on the run-up to Christmas - have contributed to the Appeal. So far, these include:

Guyatts of Salisbury

Kidz Love Fit

Baysfield Recruitment

The Old George Mall

Bailey’s Domestic Appliances

Thruxton Circuit and

Cara Glass

Many local families are relying on Foodbanks and Pantries to help them get by on a weekly basis. Hundreds of local families are registered at the Pantries that cover Salisbury, Old Sarum and Longhedge. the Appeal aims to help these families make their Christmas a little more magical.

Gemma Phillips from the Old Sarum & Longhedge Pantry told Salisbury Radio, "Every child deserves a magical Christmas. It doesn't have to be hundreds of pounds worth of toys or anything like that, but something to open on Christmas and to have that experience of Santa... just that magical feeling that we all had as children.

"We are working with Osweld International and the Pantry in Salisbury to try to get every child a toy."

Salisbury Radio breakfast show host Craig Hicks added, “It’s with grateful thanks to storage and recycling giants Guaytts of Salisbury that we’ve been able to do this, and I have every expectation we’ll be able to donate a total of around £2,000 to the Appeal.

“That means, along with the generosity of the great people of Salisbury who have already donated around £1,500, I trust we'll help exceed the target of £3,000.”

Once the money has been collected, the team will complete a trolley dash at Symths Toys in Salisbury before the presents are handed over to the Pantries for distribution.

If you have brand new toys to donate, you can drop them off at:
