Lavvy's cup run ended by ruthless Gosport

Laverstock & Ford FC's cup run was ended in emphatic style by Gosport Borough last night.

The Wessex League Premier side were always going to be up against it, facing a side riding high two leagues above them, and it was an uphill battle from the first few minutes.

Gosport scored seven as they made their way through to the second qualifying round in an entertaining game at The Dell.

Laverstock got off to the worst possible start as Jordan Matthews was caught in possession as the Bulldogs looked to play out from the back. Wooden the man to slot home after Matthews was dispossessed.

Gosport doubled their league through former Salisbury player Antonio Diaz. A ball was played deep into the box before it fell to Diaz who applied the finish.

Two nil down at half-time, Lavvy had created a couple of half chances, but nothing that had truly tested Gosport's 'keeper, Steward.

The second half continued much the same as the first, with Laverstock still trying to play their passing game and Gosport taking their chances.

Gosport extended their lead, first through a Rory Williams Penalty and then Kavanah tapped home to make it four.

Lavvy then got their reward for their effort, Adam Bourner getting one back from the penalty spot.

The goals kept coming as Laverstock grabbed another to bring it back to 5-2 as Lewis Wakefield scored with probably his first touch.

Gosport kept going though and ruthlessly added two more as the game drew to a close, the seventh coming just before the final whistle.

The large crowd at The Dell witnessed an entertaining game of football, played with both sides looking to play good football.
