People are being encouraged to join a public webinar next week to hear the latest news and ask questions regarding Ukrainians coming to settle in Wiltshire.
The online event will be at 6:30pm on Monday 16th May and will be an opportunity for people to find out more information and ask questions on the support available in the county. People can join the webinar by using this link here on the day.
People can also submit questions for the webinar in advance by emailing communications@wiltshire.gov.uk
The webinar will cover work to support refugees by Wiltshire Council and partners including accommodation checks and payments for sponsors through the Homes for Ukraine scheme and help with school places. There will also be a discussion of community support and how people can be involved and time for questions and answers.
The latest figures show that 2823 households have registered for the Homes for Ukraine scheme and currently 393 households have been matched with 1093 individuals.
There are 122 school applications, 77 primary and 45 secondary, with many joining classes since the new term has begun.
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council said, “Wiltshire has a long history of supporting people fleeing war torn countries and once again residents are offering support in many ways including those offering a safe place to stay to Ukrainian refugees. Because of the high numbers coming to Wiltshire, we’ve stepped up our efforts alongside partners to ensure the appropriate checks and support are in place.
“I would encourage anyone who wants to find out more or generally ask questions to join our webinar. If you prefer you can submit questions in advance. We want people to be informed and this webinar will be an opportunity to share the latest updates.”
There is information available on the council website at the Support for Ukraine - Wiltshire Council link which includes a welcome pack for refugees, and general information on providing support and key links.
The government has also produced a pack for sponsors.
The government's Homes for Ukraine scheme offers a route to those who want to come to the UK and who have someone willing to provide them with a home.
Individuals, charities, community groups and businesses can volunteer accommodation. People interested can record their interest here to receive updates and more information on how to apply.
