Her Salisbury Story to celebrate the lives of Salisbury women past and present

Her Salisbury Story has been working to bring Salisbury’s heritage alive through the celebration of the lives of Salisbury’s women past and present. On Saturday 16th October, there will be a celebration of the project highlighting some of the hidden histories of Salisbury’s women.

The event will take place between 2pm-5pm at Salisbury Methodist Church, St. Edmund’s Church Street, SP1 1EF. The event is free, but booking is essential for COVID safety reasons. On the day, doors open for registration of pre-booked attendees at 1.30pm.

With National Heritage Lottery funding, volunteers on the project run by Soroptimist International of Salisbury, have been researching, investigating, interviewing, writing about and publishing the inspirational stories of the historic and contemporary women of Salisbury on the Her Salisbury Story website.

The event will highlight some of the hidden histories of women from Salisbury's past and introduce some of the personal stories of contemporary women featured in the project. The ‘Her Salisbury Footprint’ Heritage Trail map and self-guided walking tour map will also be launched.

The winners of the writing competition for local female authors will be announced by best-selling author Cornelia Funke via livestream from Tuscany. Mary Ann Sieghart, author and journalist will speak about her best-selling book The Authority Gap which provides a startling perspective on the unseen bias at work in our everyday lives, to reveal the scale of the gap that still persists between men and women.
