Guildhall displaying Flag of Peace

The Commonwealth of Nations Flag of Peace is on display in the foyer of Salisbury Guildhall today to mark the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Commonwealth Charter, which was signed by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 11 March 2013.

To commemorate the occasion in the UK, every city has been given the Commonwealth Flag for Peace by the Pageant Master, which features a white dove of peace in the bottom right-hand corner of the Commonwealth flag. The image symbolises the UK’s commitment to the shared values and principles of the Commonwealth, including cooperation in economic and social development, diversity, respect, friendship and promoting peace worldwide.

The Charter of the Commonwealth is a landmark document of the values and aspirations which unite the Commonwealth’s 56 independent countries and the 2.5 billion people who live there.

The flag is on display in the foyer of Salisbury Guildhall instead of the roof due to the high winds.
