Go Green at the library this Libraries Week

Wiltshire Council Libraries are celebrating Libraries Week this week with activities and books on the themes of recycling, sustainability and climate change.

Libraries Week is a showcase of the best that libraries have to offer. Throughout the week, libraries across Wiltshire will be offering author talks, book groups, green-themed rhyme times, story times, book displays and building an eco-house out of Lego.

Activities include:

A talk from Wiltshire expert Glyn McCoy exploring the hidden parts of Wiltshire, on Tuesday 3 October from 7.30pm at Salisbury Library
A talk from Julie Davis sharing memories of how individuals recycled and reused items during the Second World War, on Wednesday 4 October from 10am at Chippenham Library.
A talk from Jack Konynenburg called “Wool, cheese and Carbuncles”, as a journey through Chippenham’s architecture, on Friday 6 October at 7.30pm at Chippenham Library
Create an eco-house out of Lego, on Saturday 7 October at 1pm at Calne Library For tickets and more information on what's happening, people can check their local library's Facebook page or pop into their local library.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Libraries, said: “Libraries are a fantastic place to be inspired and learn more. This Libraries Week across Wiltshire, there will be events and book displays on the themes of recycling, sustainability, climate change, and the action we can take to help protect the planet.

“I encourage everyone to take advantage of the vast collection of books. Not only is this a fantastic resource, but by borrowing books, we also save trees and help to tackle climate change.”

Wiltshire Council libraries have over 400,000 books, 11,000 audiobooks, 2,500 e-books and 4,900 e-magazines available to borrow.

People can join the library at any age, and membership is free. They can use their library card at any Wiltshire library or mobile library.

They can also use it for e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines and other online resources too.

To sign up, people can visit their local library or register online at: https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/libraries-join-the-library
