Gilbert the Dragon returns for Jubilee celebrations

As part of Salisbury's decorations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a special edition of Gilbert the Dragon has returned to the city, alongside red, white and blue floral displays.

On Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th May, Salisbury City Council’s Parks Team installed the floral displays to add extra colour and vibrancy to the city for the Queen’s Jubilee.

With the fantastic support of local businesses, over 370 hanging baskets and 30 flower towers/planters were installed to be enjoyed by visitors and residents.

But the decorations don't stop there, Gilbert the Dragon has also returned to Salisbury's Market Place. Standing approximately 8 foot tall and weighing an impressive 1.5 tonnes, Gilbert’s body will be adorned with red, white and blue plants to celebrate the Jubilee.

The flower dragon is maintained by Salisbury City Council and has attracted large amounts of attention from visitors and residents of Salisbury since he first appeared in 1999.

Cllr Alan Bayliss, one of the Council’s Leaders, said, “I want to say a big thank you to the Parks Team for their hard work in once again decorating the city with the beautiful floral displays. They enhance the city’s appearance every year and it is great to see the Queen’s Jubilee celebrated in this way.”
