Gas leak closes short section of Fisherton Street

A gas leak has closed a short section of Fisherton Street over the weekend, with repairs set to continue until mid-week.

A 'gas escape' was identified by engineers on Saturday, with the road being closed to road vehicles but still accessible to pedestrians and businesses are open.

It's the latest road closure in the city due to gas leaks following Devizes Road, Castle Road and last week, London Road.

SGN said, "Our engineers have identified a gas escape in the middle of the carriageway of Fisherton Street. To enable us to carry our emergency repairs safely, the road has been closed westbound at the roundabout of Dew Road and South Western Road.

"A signed diversion route is in place for motorists.

"We know this is a busy area and want to apologise for the disruption this is causing.

"All being well, we hope to have completed our emergency work, reinstated the road surface, and have the road fully re-opened by the middle of next week."

It's the latest blow to traders on Fisherton Street, who have been enduring lower numbers of customers since the start of the work for the Fisherton Gateway project.

During these gas works, all businesses remain open.
