Fundraising song and dance extravaganza to help get scout Alfie to World Jamboree

A number of local performers will come together and take to the stage on Saturday 8th October for a one-off song and dance extravaganza.

In a collaboration between local performing groups and schools across Salisbury, along with amateur musicians who have stepped forward to showcase their talents, Come Alive! will give the local community an opportunity to get back on stage after the difficulties faced by the performing arts during the pandemic.

Coming to South Wilts Grammar School on Saturday 8th October, the fundraising event will support Alife Gilfillan, 15, who has been selected to go to the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea next summer.

Alfie has been given the task of raising £4,000 and has already reached the halfway milestone with their other fundraising activities to date. The event will also support the charity Young minds.

Many young people, including Alfie, suffered mental health issues during Covid and Young Minds was a huge source of support to many.

Alife commented, "I am one of 36 young people to have been selected to represent Wiltshire and I will be amongst 50,000 other scouts from around the world.

"Here, I will get the chance to learn many new skills as well as campaign for change on key world issues that matter to us. Between now and July 2023 I will be attending a series of eight training camps and team-building events preparing us for living on the hot and humid site in SaeManGeum, Korea.

"I have the big task of fundraising £4,000. This amount covers the
training, essential scout branded kit, the trip itself plus a proportion of
this goes to help sponsor scouts in other countries so that they too can
experience this life-shaping event.

"All of your donations and support to help me achieve this target will be
very much appreciated."

Alfie is very involved in the performing arts having a passion for singing, dancing and acting and they love musical theatre. For this reason, Come Alive! will have a musical theatre theme.

Come Alive! embodies the idea of the performers getting back on stage and coming alive to perform once again - of course, it is also a nod to the very popular musical The Greatest Showman.

Confirmed group performers are:

The performance will also feature individuals representing South Wilts Grammar School and Stage 65 Youth Theatre (part of Wiltshire Creative).

The evening will be dedicated to the memory of HM Queen Elizabeth II as the patron of scouting and a great supporter of the movement and all it offers to young people.

Tickets for adults are £10 and children's tickets are £6. Get your tickets here.
