Free “Bike Repair” event taking place at “People in the Park”

Get your kid's bike checked and ready for cycling this summer.

Following successful bike events in 2022/23, where children’s bicycles were checked throughout the day, the team will be back on Saturday, 20th May, at “People in the Park“ from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm providing FREE bike repair stations for children’s and adults bikes (please note that spaces for adult bike may be limited) in Queen Elizabeth Gardens in Salisbury.

From simple puncture repairs to gear issues, our fabulous mechanics provide a free repair and maintenance service with the aim of increasing bike safety for children throughout the holidays. Parts (up to £15) and labour are free for all Salisbury City residents as long as they book a free slot.

This event is an excellent example of collaborative work from community volunteer groups in Salisbury. It wouldn’t be possible without the input of key community partners, RISE 61 and COGS and is supported by Salisbury City Council’s Communities Team.

RISE 61‘s bike hub is a fab initiative that runs all year round. Students are referred to them by local schools to learn bike maintenance skills, and they also run school bike clubs and restore bikes for affordable sale to the community.

Simon Bower, manager of the Bike Hub, says, “We love helping people of all ages get out and about on their bikes, and we’re really happy to be involved in this bike repair event. We had a great time being part of the previous events in the last two years, and it was wonderful seeing so many people happily ride off on newly repaired bikes.”

COGS – the Cycling Opportunities Group Salisbury supports the needs of cyclists in our city and organises several events giving more people access to an active lifestyle.

COGS Chair Hadrian Cook said, “It is rewarding to see the children’s happy faces once their bikes had been repaired and were rideable again. Bikes give our residents freedom, joy, independence and an opportunity to take part in active travel, and I’d like to add my thanks to Salisbury City Council and the volunteers from COGS and Rise61 for supporting this event.”

Sign up by completing the form on the link below to book your appointment; spaces are limited, particularly for adult bikes.
