Fontete-Jones set sentencing to conclude today

Following a full day in court on Friday, the sentencing of Connor Pool will conclude today (Monday, 6th February) in Winchester's Crown Court.

On Friday, the court heard testimony and watched CCTV footage of the incident that ended the life of Freddie, the popular young man from Salisbury.

Whilst adjourning court on Friday, Her Honour Judge Morris said: “This case has taken its toll on many people, and I don't want there to be any feeling that anybody has been rushed in what they want to say.

“That's not serving justice on any level.”

The sentencing is due to resume at 10:30 am this morning.

Connor Pool, who admitted the manslaughter of Freddie Fontete-Jones, was due to be sentenced on 3rd November 2022, but it was delayed until Friday, 3rd February 2023.

Freddie, 23, died following an assault in Salisbury city centre on the 22nd of February 2022.

Officers were called to the area at approximately 3 am following two 999 calls reporting disorder. When officers arrived, Freddie was unconscious, and paramedics were giving him first aid. He was taken to hospital and sadly died three days later.

Connor Pool, of Winterbourne Gunner, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Freddie at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, 9th September.

Detective Inspector Simon Childe, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said, “Freddie sustained a traumatic brain injury from which he never recovered.

“While I sadly never got to meet Freddie, I know from just speaking to his family that he was an extremely popular, charismatic and outgoing person who was loved and respected by many.

“I know his loss will be felt for many years to come, not just by his family and those who were close to him, but within the wider Salisbury community who were shocked and saddened by this incident.”

Freddie was a much-loved member of the community and is fondly remembered by his family, friends, former colleagues, and his football family at Laverstock & Ford FC.

Over £35,000 was raised in his memory to help support his family.
