A special charity football match is being held on Friday, 23 June, between Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and a team of ex-Southampton FC players.
Organised by FF Matt Mullins from Tisbury fire station and Watch Manager Larson Taylor from Trowbridge fire station, the Service team is drawing talent from across both Dorset and Wiltshire.
It’s hoped that some well-known faces will appear for the ex-Saints team. Matt said: “While we don’t yet know the team line-up, the ex-Saints squad includes big names, including Glenn Cockerill, James Beattie, Tommy Widdrington, Wayne Bridge, David Peach and Francis Benali. Former England midfielder Matt Le Tissier is known to turn out for them as well, but he’s not expected at our game. It should be a great night!”
The winners will win the Brave & Determined Company Cup, courtesy of the Shaftesbury-based non-profit business that supports a mental health charity of the same name. One of its founders, Adam Collins, is an on-call firefighter at Shaftesbury.
Shaftesbury FC will be hosting the match at their ground in Coppice Street. Kick-off is at 7 pm, with gates opening an hour before. The bar will be open.
Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for U16s/over 65s, with all profits being split between the Fire Fighters Charity and good causes nominated by the Southampton side.
