Two local fundraisers are holding a raffle of festive goodies to raise funds for Salisbury Hospital's Stars Appeal.
Colin Ford and Lynne Rose are both prolific fundraisers for the Stars Appeal. Combined they raised an astonishing amount in excess of £12,000 when taking part in the charity's Trek to Petra earlier this year.
They have teamed up this year and want to raise even more money and are calling themselves Team C.O.L.L.Y.N (Colin & Lynne).
A cause that is close to the heart of the pair, they are back raising money for the cause with a Christmas raffle with a long list of festive prizes including a star prize of a luxury handmade sleigh full of Christmas goodies.
Lynne said: "Colin and I trekked across Jordan to Petra in support of Salisbury District Stars Appeal Charity earlier this year and after we both signed up for the next trek in 2024 which will take us to Colombia we decided to join forces this time and try and raise even more for this fabulous local charity.
I've got so much to thank Salisbury Hospital for, from looking after my niece when she was born prematurely 21 years ago to my recent care in the eye clinic.
"We've been overwhelmed by the support we have had so far with donations of prizes from local businesses and raffle ticket sales. We'd love to reach the £2000 mark if we can ahead of the draw on Sunday 18th December!"
All the money raised goes towards their fundraising efforts for next year's Stars Appeal Trek through the Columbian Rainforest. All the money raised will go to the Stars Appeal with trekkers paying for the trek themselves.
Colin told Love Salisbury why he was so determined to raise money for the Stars Appeal: "In 2011 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I had surgery, a radical prostatectomy (complete removal of the prostate), and all was fine.
"Five years later I was diagnosed with Ureter cancer, a tumour in the tube that goes from the kidney to the bladder. On this occasion, I had my left kidney and the ureter containing the cancer removed, again all was well.
"I and my friends and family were devastated 6 months later when, following a routine colonoscopy, I was found that I had bowel cancer. More surgery involved removing that part of the bowel containing the cancer.
"All my surgeries and ongoing follow ups and check ups have been at our amazing hospital and I am clear of cancer. Now, being fit and well.
"In April of this year, I trekked through the Jordanian desert for the Stars Appeal and raised over £6000. I have now signed up with the Stars Appeal to trek through the Colombian Rain Forest. I am raising money for this amazing charity because our hospital undoubtedly saved my life and it is great that with the help of friends and family and incredible local business, I am able to give them something back."
