The Silver Salisbury programme will begin on Saturday 18th September at People in the Park in Queen Elizabeth Gardens.
The three-week programme of events and activities is geared towards the over 50s and was arranged by Irene Kohler, Salisbury’s Older People’s Champion, to celebrate International Day for Older People on the 1st October.
Activities on the programme include a jazz social at Salisbury Arts Centre, gentle exercise classes, pride through the generations, and art and craft groups.
Irene said, “The programme is full of things that older people are involved in, contribute to and enjoy, supporting people in maintaining their independence and giving opportunities for those who’d like to be getting out and about more but don't know where to start. Silver Salisbury is a chance to try different things, join new groups and make new friends.”
Hard copy programmes can be picked up in Salisbury at the Library, The Arts Centre, Tourist Information and Shopmobility. They are also available at Amesbury, Downton and Wilton libraries and from the mobile library service.
The programmes for Salisbury, Amesbury and Wilton can also be found on the Silver Salisbury website which is where any amendments or late additions to
the programme will be posted.
This year the Silver Salisbury team aim to focus on what matters most to older people and give them much more of a say in what they do.
Silver Salisbury are continuing to consult with as many local, older people as possible to understand their lifestyles and the things that prevent them from getting involved in the things they want to do. This will enable planning for future programmes.
Silver Salisbury would love to hear your views. You can give feedback at a focus group where a member of the team will visit any existing group or club in Salisbury, Wilton, Amesbury, Laverstock and the surrounding areas.
Alternatively, paper and online questionnaires are also available and phone calls or small Zoom meetings can be set up. To take part in the consultation in any way please contact Moira Packer on 07932 004925 or email thesilverproject@outlook.com
