Enjoy a day of aviation adventure at the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection this Saturday (2nd April 2022) as the charity raises funds for the International Red Cross Humanitarian Appeal for Ukraine.
The collection will be open as usual with some exciting additions for the day. There will be refreshments on sale, aircraft on display, a flight simulator experience, the chance to sit in fast jet cockpits and a charity raffle.
50% of Saturday’s entry receipts will go to the British Red Cross Ukraine appeal. There will also be collection buckets for donations for those who may not want to enjoy the collection, and any additional funds raised will also be donated.
The event will run from 10am-4pm, at Boscombe Down Aviation Collection which can be found at Old Sarum Airfield just outside of Salisbury.
Speaking to Love Salisbury, Hugh Sillett, Special Events Manager, said, “Everybody is welcome and we will be delighted to see you. Not many people know about us, and for those who haven't visited before - it’s quite a unique set-up we have here - people can climb in and out of aircraft and see what it is like to sit in a tornado fast jet cockpit or a lynx helicopter.
“It’s a great place for families and the youngsters particularly will be able to get in the aircraft and touch all the switches and buttons.
“Our collection features real aircraft that did once fly. In most museums, you can’t touch anything at all it is all cordoned off, whereas, with us, we have very few barriers. People can touch anything we have got and climb inside it.
“On Saturday we are also doing something special. We have some flight simulators up here, which are on a computer system, and people can have a go at flying their own humanitarian mission to Ukraine using the flight simulator.”
