Dramatic end sees Dorking and Salisbury share the points

Salisbury took a point back to Wiltshire after trailing 2-0 in the 86th minute away at promotion-tipped Dorking Wanderers. The game ended 3-3 after four goals in the last 13 minutes.

In the opening stages of the game, Dorking Wanderers had most of the possession, moving it about looking for an opening. Salisbury defended with a strong, compact shape, not allowing the Hosts any room in behind.

In the 11th Minute, Dorking won a corner, which resulted in the game’s first goal.

The initial corner was headed away, only for another dangerous ball to be sent back into the box, where goalkeeper James Hillson came out to punch. The ball was met by Jack Young, who put it into the vacant Salisbury net with a caressed volley.

After the Dorking opener, Salisbury started to grow into the match. Noah Coppin and Josh Hedges linked up nicely to create half an opening for Coppin; however, the strike had too much height and went over the bar.

In the 22nd minute, Aiden Elliott-Wheeler looked to threaten the Dorking box with a surging run. However, his ball into Josh Hedges was fired over from close range, but the promising signs were obvious for all in the ground to see.

The rest of the first half remained tight and ended with Dorking leading 1-0.

The opening stages of the second half remained tight, with both teams looking for the next goal; Alfie Rutherford went close after a corner was headed back to him in the Salisbury box.

A Salisbury change came in the 55th minute when Jaden Perez replaced Ryan Penny.

Jordan Ragguette looked a problem for the hosts down the flank as he beat his man to get inside the Dorking box. Ragguette went down under a challenge, but referee Tommy Breen deemed the challenge fair.

Salisbury would continue to create half-chances but nothing concrete enough to find the all-important equalizer.

In the 60th Minute, James Hillson produced an incredible save to deny the hosts a second after Rutherford found himself free in the box.

A few minutes later, Salisbury found themselves at a major disadvantage, with Aiden Elliott-Wheeler receiving his marching orders after a second yellow from a challenge the player made out of frustration. Elliott-Wheeler had earlier cautioned for descent.

Craig Fasanmade replaced debutant Callum Watts in the 71st minute after an impressive first cameo for the Whites’ new midfield player. In the 82nd minute, Ronan Silva took to the pitch to replace Noah Coppin.

Dorking doubled their lead in the 84th minute after Jack Young found the net again when the ball rolled out to him just outside the Salisbury Penalty area; the midfielder smashed it home powerfully enough to beat Hillson.

The Whites’ spirit was certainly not dampened. Minutes later (86th), Salisbury were awarded a penalty after the keeper fouled Fasanmade. Josh Hedges stepped up to slot the ball home, halving Dorking’s advantage.

This goal would signal the start of a hectic final few minutes, and the fourth official indicated that a minimum of six minutes of additional time was to be added at the end of the 90.

In the fifth minute of added time, Ronan Silva finished off a chance that had come off the crossbar from an Owen Dore effort to level the game.

Two minutes later, the travelling Salisbury support were sent into pure ecstasy after Jordan Ragguette won the ball in the Dorking half and drove the ball into a crossing position where he found the foot of Josh Hedges, who flicked the ball on perfectly to put Salisbury ahead with few moments in the game left.

The game wasn’t over yet, though. It went into its 100th minute, and unfortunately, from a Salisbury perspective, the hosts managed to create one more chance with Bobby Joe Taylor, who finished to level after another fine stop from Hilson.

The game ended 3-3 after a hectic final 14 minutes, and the points were shared in Surrey.
