Residents are being encouraged to visit their local library this week and join Wiltshire Libraries in celebrating Libraries Week to discover what their local library has to offer.
Libraries Week is a showcase of services and activities available at libraries with events taking place across the county including author events, historical talks, children’s storytimes and arts and crafts sessions.
People can take part in inspiring reading group events with some favourite book group reads and new titles including the psychological thriller ‘A Bird in Winter’ by Louise Doughty or TV’s David Mitchell’s funny observations on life in ‘Thinking about it will only make it worse.’ Events will take place across the county.
• Tuesday 8 October, 10.30am at Salisbury Library
• Saturday 12 October, 2pm at Trowbridge Library
• Saturday 19 October, 2pm at Chippenham Library
Throughout October, there will be a wide variety of author talks and reading events, covering everything from West Country folklore and crime novels to the tale of how Winnie the Pooh was involved in the origins of the Wiltshire Library Service.
• Award-winning author Tammye Huf talks about her debut novel 'A More Perfect Union' on Thursday 10 October, 6pm at Trowbridge Library
• A talk by Ian Hicks, Archives Collections Manager will introduce Maple Leaf Villa and tell the story of a Canadian army hut, Winnie-the-Pooh and the origins of Wiltshire’s library headquarters, on Friday 11 October, 3pm to 4pm at Trowbridge Library
• A green-themed intergenerational storytime and craft session followed by a colouring activity on Saturday 12 October, 2.30pm at Salisbury Library
• Crime writer and creative writing tutor Kate Rhodes will be visiting on Thursday 24 October, 7pm at Devizes Library
• For teens, top author Teri Terry will be hosting a book talk on Monday 28 October, 2.30pm at The Lounge, Salisbury library
• For older children, Fleur Hitchcock will be hosting a book talk on Thursday 31 October, 11.30am at Devizes Library
Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Libraries, said: “Libraries are a fantastic place to be inspired and learn more. This Libraries Week people can join thought-provoking group reads and a wide range of author talks and events for children including children’s book talks, storytime and arts and crafts.
“There’s something for everyone at Wiltshire Libraries and I would encourage people to take advantage of our extensive collection including over 400,000 books, in a variety of formats including hardback and paperback, audio, e-books and e-magazines available to borrow.”
