COGS are hosting a cycle ride as part of the Salisbury International Arts Festival

Cycling Opportunities Group for Salisbury (COGS) are partnering with the Salisbury International Arts Festival to host a gentle ride round the Golden Way in Salisbury.

The Golden Way was designed by local resident and COGS member Howard Piner as a circular route linking all the radial routes approaching the city.

The route is 11 kilometres (7 miles) long and is well-marked in both directions by the Golden Way logo and direction arrows.

The Golden Way provides good cycling options from the suburbs of Salisbury to the city centre for commuters and to the Sustrans National Cycle Network, National Byway and Wiltshire Cycleway Routes, for those wishing to head into the countryside.

The route is especially suited to families who want to spend leisure time without going far from home. Families can stop off at playgrounds, somewhere to eat and drink, whilst enjoying and appreciating the local scenery.

As part of the Salisbury International Arts Festival, COGS are delighted to be leading a ride around the Golden Way and is very grateful to their ride leaders, Rob Jacobs and Peter Durnan.

This leisurely route will pass around the city and show residents safer routes that are either traffic free or have a lower number of vehicles.

Hadrian Cook, COGS chair, commented that “We are absolutely delighted to work with the International Arts Festival to host this ride round our lovely city.

"Cycling is a fantastic way to see our beautiful city, and we look forward to leading this ride for residents. COGS are working hard to improve cycling in the city and would encourage our residents to take up cycling as part of active travel e.g. commuting, school travel, shopping, social activities and for leisure.

"We would like to see Wiltshire Council invest more in active travel so that more people have a healthy and inexpensive way to travel round the city, but to do this, we need cycling infrastructure that provides a safer environment”.

Hadrian added that “This year, we look forward to welcoming local cyclists joining us as part of the Salisbury International Arts Festival.”
