A group of local people ran the first Alderbury Clothing Exchange (ACE) on Saturday, 25 February, at St Mary's Hall, Whaddon.
Organised by five volunteers, the event aims to provide the local community with an environmentally friendly way of recycling unwanted clothing, reducing the carbon footprint caused by manufacturing clothing and stopping items from needlessly ending up in the landfill.
Local resident Jenna Lloyd came up with the idea after attending similar events in the past: "Because of the cost of living crisis, I wanted to put on an event where people could find the clothes they need for free.
"We've got a really friendly and supportive community here in the village, so I was confident that they'd get behind this first event and make it a real success."
Salisbury Radio's very own Karli Hart led the Clothing Exchange marketing. A self-confessed 'Vinted Queen', she was excited to volunteer and get involved: "I believe that nothing needs to be bought at full price. I'm a very savvy shopper, and nothing needs to cost the earth. Life is expensive enough."
The team also took donations of food and toiletries for Salisbury Foodbank.
Alderbury locals have since flocked to Facebook to praise the event:
Louise Davy - "You all did an amazing job thankyou."
Anna Howell - "Great effort, thank you, and well done to everyone who volunteered to organise."
Donna Trevett - "Wow, I've just left with a big bag of free clothes. I feel blessed, thank you."
Philip Spooner - "Have just popped in to see the clothes at the church hall - really great selection on display and clearly ordered in age/gender categories. Very impressive and all free (can hardly believe this!). Nice one organisers!!"
The next Alderbury Clothing Exchange will take place in early summer - the exact date to be confirmed.
