The Salisbury City Hall website has gone live. It shows some of this year's upcoming events, including Rhod Gilbert.
The reopening of City Hall has long been discussed on local social media, with plenty of column inches filled with speculation and rumours.
Wiltshire Council announced they had agreed to a preferred operator for the venue after a meeting in late January—a significant step towards the venue opening its doors once more.
It has been confirmed locally that the team at MECA Swindon are the preferred bidder, and they are working hard behind the scenes to put everything in place to have the City Hall open again this year.
Since then, there have been rumours of artists who had been booked to appear with City Hall appearing on several posters for tours from a variety of performers.
However, the City Hall website is now live and shows several events, including 'Sing the Musicals', magician James Phelan, and comedian Rhod Gilbert.
It promises that the new operators will "bring the best in live entertainment to the heart of the city. From packed-out comedy gigs to unforgettable live music, our ever-evolving programme ensures there is always something to look forward to."
The calendar also shows the return of Roller Discos to the City Hall, which used to be a popular event when the venue used to host them in years past. Bongo's Bingo is hugely popular around the UK and is described as "a crazy mix of traditional bingo, dance-offs, rave intervals, audience participation, and countless magical moments."
There are details of a new cafe with a name that references the venue's former life as a cinema. The Picture House Cafe promises to be a welcoming spot for everyone.
The new operators are also keen to be part of the community. Their website says, "We are a cultural hub where people come together. Whether catching a show, meeting friends at our café, or discovering local talent, Salisbury City Hall is a space for everyone."
Although an opening date is yet to be confirmed, this is the most concrete evidence that City Hall will again become part of Salisbury's entertainment and cultural offering.
Justin Britford, the man behind the organisation reopening of City Hall, said, "We are thrilled and excited to announce the launch of our new website and have many more acts to announce in the near future.
"Please like and share our Facebook page to stay updated on what’s coming next."
