Christmas Tree Collection raises over £21,000 for Salisbury Hospice Charity

Salisbury Hospice Charity's Christmas tree collection has raised £21,586 for the local charity.

In total, 1314 trees were collected between the 8th and the 10th of January. The scheme is a huge community effort that involves the support of 73 volunteers including those from local businesses, who kindly dedicated their time and resources in support of the hospice.

The money raised from the collection will support Salisbury Hospice and ensure patients have dignity and choice in their final days. It will provide support to families, carers and friends, ensuring that comfort and advice is given at every stage of the dying process.

Every year, Salisbury Hospice cares for up to 1,000 people living with life-limiting illnesses and its services are free of charge to everyone who uses them.

Annually, Salisbury Hospice Charity needs to raise £1.5 million, over 60% of the £2.4 million needed to maintain the vital palliative care services at the hospice.

Salisbury Hospice Charity will be donating 10% of funds raised to local charity Serve On, who kindly assisted with the collection and offer support to the community in times of need. In addition to supporting charities, the collection also helps the environment as all of the trees are chipped thanks to the efforts of local tree services. Chippings are then recycled as animal bedding on a local farm or turned into compost.

A spokesperson for the charity said, "The charity is extremely grateful to everyone who supported the scheme this year by registering their tree and we would like to extend their gratitude to their kind sponsor Boatwrights Estate Agent.

"Salisbury Hospice Charity would also like to thank Linden Van Hire, Pizza Venti, The Stones Hotel, Tesco Extra Salisbury, Ockenden Tree Services, Mark Walsh Tree Services, Stump Grinders Tree Specialist, Serve On, Rose Farm Hurdcott, Newbourne Farm Composting, Nationwide Building Society, Step Associates, Breeze Environmental, R Mouldings Builders, Neil Smith Builder, Donald Capewell Builder, DNL Garden and Fencing, Ringway Infrastructure, Clearite, ASG Landscaping, Agri Line and of course all their wonderful community volunteers."
