Christmas 2023 opening times for Wiltshire Council services

Wiltshire Council have confirmed their services and opening times will vary over the Christmas and New Year period.

All council services and facilities will be closed on Monday 25 December, Tuesday 26 December and Monday 1 January.

Customer Services/hub buildings:

All customer service desks and hub buildings will be closed on Monday, 25th December, Tuesday, 26th December and Monday 1st January.

Opening times for Wednesday 27th December – Friday 29th December will be 9 am to 5 pm. Although the main reception desks will be staffed during this period, hub staffing is likely to be limited.

Normal opening hours will resume on Tuesday, 2nd January.

Waste collections:

There will be no household waste or recycling collections on Monday, 25th December, Tuesday, 26th December, or Monday, 1st January, after which normal service will resume. See full details and dates on our Household Waste and Kerbside recycling pages. 

Garden waste collections will cease for two weeks over Christmas, with the last collections taking place on Friday 22 December.

The service will resume on Tuesday, 9th January, when the collection day will be a day later than usual, starting with collections which would generally have taken place on Monday 8 January.

People who pay to have their garden waste collected can put out their real Christmas tree alongside their garden waste bin, on their first collection in January.

Household Recycling Centres:

Household Recycling Centres (HRC) will operate reduced hours over the Christmas period, from Sunday, 24th December, resuming normal opening hours on Tuesday, 2nd January.

Leisure centres:

All council-operated leisure centres will be closed from Monday 25th December to Tuesday 26th December, plus Monday 1st January.

Normal opening times will resume on Tuesday, 2nd January.

Libraries:

All libraries, including the mobile libraries, will be closed from Monday 25th December, to Tuesday, 26th December, and Monday, 1st January.

Between 27th December – 30th December, they will open as normal, with the exception that libraries that would normally be open in the evening will close at 5 pm or as usual if due to close earlier.

Normal opening times will resume on Tuesday, 2nd January.

Registration offices in Chippenham, Salisbury and Trowbridge:

Registration offices in Salisbury, Chippenham, and Trowbridge will be open on Friday, 22nd December, for ceremonies and by appointment only.

All registration offices will be closed from Monday, 25th December to Tuesday, 26th December, and Monday, 1st January.

Registration offices will be open normally between Wednesday, 27th December and Friday, 29th December. No appointments will be available on Saturday, 30th December, and Sunday, 31st December, but ceremonies will take place as scheduled.
