Battlefield Hospital at Salisbury District Hospital for its Open Day

Salisbury District Hospital is hosting its first-in-a-generation Open Day for the community on 22nd July.

The 243 (Wessex) Field Hospital will be on hand providing a fascinating look at the workings of military medicine through history.

They will be exhibiting a modern-day ground manoeuvre surgical bay and a battlefield ambulance, demonstrating how war-time casualties have been treated and cared for.

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating a year of anniversaries, with the hospital being 80 years old and the NHS 75.

The hospital on Odstock Road has its origins as a US Army Field hospital, treating casualties from D-Day, the Battle of Normandy and the Liberation of Europe in WWI.

The event is open to everyone in the community and will include a variety of activities on the day, with something for everyone.

Several hospital departments will showcase their services, enabling visitors to learn more about the hospital and hospital life.

Visitors will see life-saving robots in action, have a tour of the hospital site, and view the new ward being constructed.

In addition, blue light services will be present with vehicles and crews to talk about their work on the front line. And there will be live music and activities for children.

The Open Day will be held 10am to 2pm on Saturday 22nd July.

Parking will be free.
